in 2012 after billie checked into rehab and green day had to cancel their tour, metallica filled in for them at one of the festivals they were supposed to play at. metallica actually covered american idiot during their performance, dedicated one of their songs to billie, and james hetfield told the crowd that they hope billie gets well soon because “the world needs green day”.
